Vira
Virabhadra is a fearsome form of the god Shiva, embodying his wrath and vengeance.
- Origin: He was created by Shiva from a lock of his matted hair, which he plucked and threw to the ground in a fit of rage and grief. This was after Shiva's first wife, Sati, self-immolated herself during a sacrificial ceremony (yajna) hosted by her father, Daksha. Daksha had deliberately humiliated Shiva by not inviting him to the ceremony.
- Purpose: Virabhadra was commanded by Shiva to destroy Daksha's yajna. Accompanied by the goddess Bhadrakali, Virabhadra stormed the ceremony, killed Daksha, and scattered the other deities present.
- Significance: Virabhadra represents divine fury, the destruction of ego, and the restoration of cosmic balance. After Daksha was beheaded, Shiva later restored his life but with a goat's head as a sign of penance.

Virabahu is a deity and the commander-in-chief of Lord Murugan's army.
- Origin: In Tamil tradition, he is one of the nine commanders (Navaveerargal) born to serve Lord Murugan.
- Purpose: Virabahu played a crucial role in Lord Murugan's war against the demon Surapadman. He acted as Murugan's messenger, challenging Surapadman and reporting his defiance back to the god. He then fought valiantly in the war to vanquish the demon.
- Significance: Virabahu symbolizes the heroism and courage of Murugan's army. His worship is particularly significant in Tamil Nadu, where some warrior communities trace their lineage to him.
